Quick Tip: Garlic cuts cancer risk

Garlic can cut the risk of bowel cancer by up to 30 per cent. Scientists analysed studies on the herb carried out for the last 10 years. Some studies suggest half a clove of raw garlic a day is needed. Others show two a day can also help prevent a lung condition – pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The key ingredient in garlic seems to be allicin. It is thought to dampen inflammation in the body and act as an antioxidant. You can also take garlic in supplement form.  (An excellent one is Aged Garlic – see Resources page).
